I chose to paint a picture of Medusa because I have always found Greek mythology fascinating. I wanted to portray her differently that all of the traditional paintings there are already. While doing some research, I found that the majority of them were painted in dark colors and put an evil expression on her face. This is why I decided to use bright colors and give her a calm expression. The snakes on her throne and hair are made to look wild, but her position and expression were made to seem calm. I also enjoy working with bright colors and dark outlines and thought this, along with the subject I had chosen, would be an interesting combination. Finally, the colorful outlines around her throne were meant to add some more life to the picture, and to make it seem as if she were radiating power.
